There are many ways to donate to the Hodgkins Public Library. Gifts and donations are welcomed and appreciated because they can be used for materials, programs and equipment for which funds are not otherwise available.
Types of Donations
Monetary gifts may be made toward purchase of library materials in honor or memory of someone or in honor of a special occasion such as the birth of a child or grandchild. The Library will try to match titles being added with the interests of the person being honored and in accordance with the Library’s collection policy.
Gifts of money, real property, and stocks and bonds are most useful to the Library in unrestricted form. Any restrictions attached to such gifts must fall within the Library’s mission, roles and policies and be accepted by the Library Board.
Personal property, art objects, memorial or commemorative objects, displays, artifacts and similar materials are generally not accepted as gifts. Under certain circumstances the Library may accept such a gift if all conditions are approved by the Board. The Library will not accept materials which are not outright gifts, and if accepted, the Library is not able to guarantee permanent display or ownership. The Library staff does not provide any assessment of valuation on any gift or donation.
Books and other print or audiovisual donations will be accepted by the Library with the understanding that these articles are given unconditionally. The Library reserves the right to add an item to its collection, to donate it to another institution, to place it in our ongoing book sale, or to dispose of it. Donated materials are added in accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy. Material donations must be clean and undamaged. The Library cannot accept textbooks or encyclopedias over five (5) years old, nor does it accept magazines or journals.
